Idea: an app that we can browse curated contemporary art exhibition anytime anywhere
It started with a thought of building a contemporary art gallery app which provides art gallery experiences through mobile phone or tablet. Especially during the lockdown times, instead of feeling drowning in the internet nonsense sea, I was craving for some curated exhibition. Further it would be nice to hear some gossip stories from the artists or something inspiring, fun and closer to us.
The idea for the app is to have a free access for a permanent collection that everyone has the app can browse and read about the story. This permanent collection will be slowly added while the new exhibitions are shown. There is also free access for the art web shop and newsletter as well.
As for the members (who pays subscription fee) can access seasonal curated exhibitions, from developed or new artist, with images, interview videos and podcast. (And maybe printed magazine or poster in the future). Both the permanent collection and shown exhibitions will slowly build a contemporary art archive which the members have the access to revisit or search from it any time.
The ambition for the app is to be a legit organisation that not just presenting to users but also attract talented curators and artist to be part of the exhibitions making.
The look: Art in another box?!
As being an art gallery app, does that mean to keep art in another frame: screens…? So, ironically I made the logo looks like an architect institution, sharp and cold, together with colourful boxes that users are able to move them both vertically and horizontally, just like building blocks. It aims to create a dynamic grid for users to enjoy the dig into different art sections with images or audio or video clips.

Conclusion: Long way to go!
The project is not founded yet, and as long as I want to keep both a searchable archive and a web shop all in one app, the idea became pretty huge and more structured site map has to be done as well.
It has been a great practice of exploring the possibility with moving blocks with in screens. Further for the UI, I would like to dig into accessibility, especially when I mixed serif and sans-serif fonts together with similar tones of colours. I thing more options of visual components have to be examined later.
